On Sunday the 31st of October, 2021, I stumbled on a linkedin job recommendation for an associate product manager programme at the Atlassian JIRA branch in Sydney, Australia towards the year 2022.

You had to have atleast graduated from the university in the year 2021 to apply so I went for it since I had recently completed my masters degree in English Literature back in August.

How did it go? Well, hmmmm.

The application process was straightforward — however, when I stumbled on the section below, I automatically understood that my chances at acceptance was slim to nearly impossible.

However I still went ahead — it would not be the first time I would be getting doors slammed in my face with a huge NO sign, lol - so, I proceeded for the fun of it.

Despite the fact that I did it all for fun, I still ensured I submitted the best of my efforts from my resume to my cover letter where I focused on the business success of a reading and educational service I had come up with 4 years ago — it reached over 400 Nigerians and self funded itself from montly dues collected from onboarded members alongside how a new product I had in the works was faring.

Not too long after clicking send on the application, I received the following in my mail box:

Honestly I knew my chances of getting feedback was low since Atlassian is a big company, not only that, they had also expressly stated that if we didnt get any form of feedback, we shouldn’t feel slighted and honestly I was not even waiting on it.

To my surprise however, I did get feedback, and the very next day even:

However, the feedback was not an acceptance but not a through rejection at the same time (in my opinion) cus to be 100% eligible for the programme, I did have to officially be able to work in Australia (which I am not).

I put my best foot forward and the feedback no matter the form it came was indeed a great morale booster. I will keep working hard — something will click and one door will open. I am sure of it.

I may have some good news to share when next I write — who knows.

p.s: if you think you have all it takes to join the programme. Here is the link, go for it and always remember to put your best foot forward. May we all get to the top someday. Cheers.
